El Paso’s newly appointed marshal, Dallas Stoudenmire, investigates the disappearance of two Mexican vaqueros who crossed the border in search of their stolen cattle. When their bodies are found on a prominent rancher’s land, the marshal arrests his two ranch hands for murder, though they claim self-defense. The arrest angers the town, but the vaqueros’ friends want justice. Battle lines are drawn, and the danger escalates. To calm things down, the trial is postponed, but it’s too little, too late. Violence finally erupts in an infamous shootout that will soon be known as the Four Dead in Five Seconds Gunfight. Years later, gunfighter-turned-reporter Bat Masterson hears the shocking events from the Mexican rancher who employed the two murdered vaqueros.
