The Virginian MON-THURS | 12AM ET, FRI | 8AM - 11AM ET, SUN | 9AM ET Classic action-packed Western! Stars James Drury as The Virginian and Doug McClure as Trampas. The Virginian is a man of mystery, a man of few words, a man who never reveals his real name. In spite of his unknown past, he is a man of honor, who lives by the Code of the West based on honesty, bravery, loyalty, respect, justice and hard work. As foreman of the Shiloh Ranch, he takes his moral values seriously. He expects nothing more of his ranch hands than he expects of himself—and those are some big boots to fill! From long and grueling cattle drives, to fighting outlaws and rustlers, to rescuing folks in trouble, to romantic entanglements, the simple yet intelligent stories are gripping, poignant and sometimes humorous. Episodes often dramatize topics of injustice, prejudice, the need to take responsibility for one’s actions, compassion and respect for others, in a family-friendly format. The Virginian is the mysterious foreman of Shiloh, the large cattle ranch located near Medicine Bow in the Wyoming Territory in the 1890s. He’s a man of his word, though a man of few words. He never reveals his real name. Tough, strong, polite, he is known to always do the right thing, bravely helping his friends in times of trouble. He takes his responsibilities seriously, and seems aloof, to be a loner, but deep down he is kind and generous. One of the Virginian’s friends, Trampas is the Top Hand on the ranch. But he didn’t always have a strong work ethic. Prior to working at Shiloh, he was repeatedly in trouble with the law, gambling and lazy. Meeting the Virginian and Judge Garth helps him mature and see the error of his ways. But his personality remains the same. If the Virginian is serious, Trampas goes to the opposite end of the spectrum. He is fun-loving to the point of sometimes being rowdy, prone to getting himself involved in outrageous situations. Booted off a train in the middle of nowhere for having no ticket, cowhand Steve Hill finds work at a competing ranch. After he thwarts a plot against Shiloh, he approaches Shiloh owner, Judge Garth about a job and is hired as a ranch hand. He becomes a good friend to both the Virginian and Trampas, and is usually the one to come to the rescue when Trampas gets in trouble. Judge Garth is the first owner of the Shiloh Ranch. He comes across as harsh and uncompromising, but he has an affectionate side which is evident as he takes on the role of mentor and father figure to the Virginian. He is a man who earns the respect of Medicine Bow’s citizens and his employees. If there’s an unsettled matter between people, they are most likely to turn to Garth for advice. You may also like...
