A Mexican bandit named Baranca and his gang ride into North Fork looking for Bro Hadley, who murdered a Mexican farmer and burned down his home. Baranca finds Hadley and intends to get justice by executing him. However, Lucas intervenes just in time.

Coley Clayborn’s mother, who abandoned him as a child, returns to Virginia City. However, Coley believes that she has only come back to claim his father’s gold mine.

After a whirlwind courtship, Jarrod marries. His absolute joy quickly turns to grief when his new bride is murdered by a man Jarrod once sent to prison. Now, a grief stricken Jarrod has set his heart and mind on revenge.

Newspaperman Byron Claremont writes an article about old gunslinger, Ben Russell, who settled down years ago. The article brings in a young gun, who murders Russell. Next, Claremont writes about Lucas McCain and his rifle, which brings more tragedy.

When Apache raids close Judah Austin's mine, he offers Stoner a bounty for Indian scalps despite John Cannon's objections. After Stoner's son is wounded in an attack on the Apaches, he nurses his wounds and begins to question his father’s actions.

A wealthy Mexican loyalist visits the Barkley's and brings with him a valuable necklace. A female anarchist then shows up at the ranch, posing as an aristocrat and plotting to trick everyone and bring the necklace back to Mexico.

General George Barton comes to Laramie planning a presidential campaign. Needing a break, he visits the Sherman Ranch with his daughter, campaign manager, Army captain, and sergeant for protection. Problems arise when assassination attempts begin.

At Cold Creek, the Comanches kill 23 soldiers, including Will Bailey’s brother. Will believes that scout, Amos Cartwright, led them into an ambush and wants to seek revenge for his brother’s death by planning to kill him.

When Andy’s feisty Palomino causes problems on the ranch, Slim wants to sell the horse. Andy runs away from home with his horse and soon after becomes mixed up with a band of outlaws who plan to rob the bank in Cheyenne.
