The Red Pony Maureen O’Hara, Henry Fonda, and Clint Howard star in this classic Western that’s all about family conflicts, devotion, and trust! Adapted from the John Steinbeck story of the same name, The Red Pony features great acting by O’Hara and Fonda—in fact, these legendary Hollywood stars both won the prestigious Peabody Award for their performances. It also features a rich supporting cast that includes strong performances by Clint Howard, Ben Johnson, Jack Elam, and Rance Howard. On a turn-of-the-century farm, Ruth Tiflin worries about the relationship between her son, Jody, and her husband, Carl. She tries to make Jody see that his father really loves him, despite his cold and aloof ways. It’s not that Carl Tiflin doesn’t love his son. It’s because life has been hard for him; he is a struggling farmer with money worries, endless chores, and little patience for his young boy. Even so, there are moments when Carl tries to impart his wisdom and help his son grow up to be an honest, hardworking man. Despite their best efforts, Jody and Carl struggle to communicate and get along. But when Carl gives Jody a gift of a beautiful newborn colt, things start to turn around. Jody is devoted to his red pony, and father and son soon begin to understand each other as they work together to raise this spirited young horse. There are lots of lessons to be learned by every member of the family. But nothing worth doing is ever easy, as Ruth, Carl, and Jody will soon discover. Only the love, support, and commitment they share will help this family face anything—and everything—together. You may also like... A Legend Leaves Us.
