4. Posse (1975)

In this sharp political Western, Douglas directs and stars as Marshal Howard Nightingale, a lawman with senatorial ambitions. He leads a ruthless posse to capture outlaw Jack Strawhorn, but the tables turn when Strawhorn exposes Nightingale’s hypocrisy. Douglas brilliantly portrays the moral decay of power, making this film a thought-provoking departure from traditional Western heroics. The film’s cynical edge and strong performances elevate it beyond a standard chase thriller.
