Death in Paradise (2006)

In Death in Paradise, the third movie in the series, Jesse Stone is settled in his new life as chief of police in a small town of Paradise, despite his continued battles with the bottle, grieving the death of his girlfriend, and still hurting because his marriage ended. But what’s truly unsettling is his new case. Billie Bishop, a pregnant 14-year-old high school girl is murdered and found drowned in a lake. At the crime scene, Luther “Suitcase” Simpson finds a school ring bearing the initials, “H.R.” It’s clear this case hits Stone hard. The murder haunts his dreams. As Stone and Simpson follow lead after lead, suspects emerge—a high school star athlete, a well-known local writer, a mobster! Meanwhile, Stone’s other case is also an emotional trigger involving violent domestic abuse that ends in a hostage situation and shootout in which Luther is critically wounded. With these heart wrenching cases weighing upon him, Stone might be close to a breakdown, but instead he has a breakthrough by seeing Dr. Dix played by William Devane (Knot’s LandingMonte Walsh, also with Selleck), a therapist, former cop, and a man who also had a drinking addiction in the past.

Fun trivia:
